Americans when the trees start speaking Vietnamese.

Many people will agree that there is something about the sound of a foreign language that can be beautiful, and even soothing. There are many languages all around the world with their own unique sounds: Spanish, French, Mandarin Chinese. But what happens when they start to speak English?

This is a question that many people have asked themselves, but with no clear answer. Does the fact that English isn’t their native language change the way they speak and communicate? The short answer is yes, it does change things- but not in ways you might expect. The longer answer requires digging into research on how languages affect our brains and personalities. “Americans,” the trees said. “When you start speaking Vietnamese.” I looked around, but all that was there were a few giants and some saplings spaced out at intervals on either side of the path. The language spoken by these people didn’t sound like English- it sounded like something else entirely.

It reminded me of one of those ancient languages from worlds beyond this one we know nothing about.. But how could that be? This is Earth, even if not my Earth.. I’ll stop writing here for now – so much to do!
