A Sea of Plastic

A documentary by Manuela Dei Grandi (Cork Institute of Technology, Cork, Ireland)

The ocean is a beautiful environment, and a source of life to many species. But now it’s threatened by our society’s addiction to disposable plastic. Many single-use plastic bottles and packaging are not disposed of properly and find their way to the ocean. Eventually, this plastic breaks down into micro-plastic and finds its way into the food chain. This short documentary explores the global issue of plastic pollution in our seas from the local perspective of a small community in the south west coast of Ireland: its causes, impacts and possible solutions.
